Trans Woman’s New Job Benefits Include 401k, PTO, Nobody Knowing Her Old Fucking Name

KANSAS CITY, MO–Hiring after the pandemic has resulted in many companies offering new and unique incentives to perspective employees. For some, including one local transgender woman, those new benefits included a 401k retirement plan, paid time off, and nobody knowing her old fucking name. Juliette Elliot, 45, transitioned at her last job where her employer was fine, just, ya know, fine; however after a layoff and subsequent job search, her new employer offered her some benefits that were missing from that previous employer.

“I mean, sure it’s also a little more money. That’s always good. And I’m a little older now, so the insurance is definitely a plus in my book; but when my previous employer called me back and I had this opportunity, there was one key benefit that my old employer could not offer: nobody here knows my old fucking name.”

Elliot was willing to go back to her previous employer, and may have if it were not for that key reason. “Oh, I know how to handle the insurance marketplace; and I have a 401k already from the place I worked at before I transitioned. But really if I had to pick a really key reason for my change it would have to be the name thing.

Her manager at her new employer, NextCom, Kelley Harbringer, said that he loved having Elliot on staff. “She’s a joy to work with. Professional. Calm. Competent. Always shows up. I am super glad that our company was able to give her the benefit package to lure her away from her previous employer. You got to hang on to talent like her.”

Elliot is settling in well, too., “I would really suggest any trans person that can find a new employer where nobody knows your old fucking name. I don’t even hate my old name. But, you know, it’s just easier this way,” she said. “And they actually paid me, which is always nice.”
