ENTIRE UNITED STATES – “Well fuck that shit,” the LGBT community declared as one this Friday. The exclamation, which came in response to the news of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, has been the largest of many recent instances of the community coming together to express disdain for a recent political event.
Roe v. Wade was first decided in 1973, and completely changed the landscape of abortion care, saving countless lives who might have been lost to backalley care or dangerous complications. By a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling yesterday, granting states the freedom to outlaw abortion without exception, something many states are immediately prepared to do. The LGBT community responded to the news swiftly, simultaneously declaring “Well, that’s some fucking bullshit.”
Some individual LGBT people slightly expanded the message to reach other audiences. “The court has abandoned any pretense of neutrality and has turned itself into another wing of an increasingly unhinged and authoritarian party,” explained LGBT advocate Cynthia Montoya. “This decision takes away basic bodily autonomy from any person with a uterus and will have profound negative effects on their safety and ability to get quality health care. Basically, fuck. Shit, fuck, goddamn, this is fucking crap.”
“Seriously, what the fuck,” she added immediately after.
Since the announcement, the LGBT community has spent considerable time thinking about the news and its probable consequences and adding occasional comments, as appropriate.
“Fuck those robe-ass motherfuckers,” the LGBT community commented, most recently. “I hope they shit thumbtacks.”
